The DJ
So, the first thing that you might be asking yourself is, "How do I say this guy's name?” Well, it's the phonetic spelling of the word phoneme (foe neme). Now that you know that, most of you are probably wondering, "Okay, so what the hell is a phoneme?” Well, I will enlighten you...
Phoneme: The smallest unit of a given language capable of conveying some sort of meaning, i.e. the 'c' in cat, or the 'a' in mat.
Since my language of communication is through the medium of music, I feel that the smallest unit is the individual person who creates it - such as myself. Therefore, I am a phoneme. Insert your best Keanu Reeves, "Whoa," here.
In the few years that FoNeM has been dabbling in the realm of electronic dance music, he has shown not only promise when it comes to his technical abilities, but also a true love for the music itself. Through his carefully constructed sets he displays just how important it is to hand pick the right tracks to flow from beginning to end. Not satisfied with using strictly mainstream pop songs, this DJ finds it more rewarding and invigorating to use lesser known beats which ultimately shape the atmosphere he wants to project to his listeners.
Although new to the DJ scene itself, FoNeM has a long time love for electronic dance music. His first ear opening experience dating back to the late 80's when he heard Technotronic's, "Pump up the Jam. Since that time he has explored many of the dance music genres, head bopping from trance to house, drum 'n bass to techno, electro to breaks. As the years went by FoNeM found himself inspired by the sounds of Sasha and John Digweed, two premier DJ's and music producers from Europe that have world renowned clout and are still rocking the clubs 20 years after their first record was spun.
One thing that FoNeM prides himself on when it comes to his music is the attention that he gives his transitions. Not content with simply cutting from one track to the next, he displays his critical ear and aptitude for blending sounds in such a manner that a typical set is merely one long voyage through sound. In addition, FoNeM refuses to stick to one genre when compiling an album in favor of scanning through multiple genres and sub-genres, creating a unique sound that beautifully displays his prowess.
DJ FoNeM views music as an experience to be had, to be shared, to be enjoyed. His only hope is that you feel the same way. After all, life without music is life without sound.
